Been here a few times. Won’t be coming back again. Range officers every time I have gone, will not leave me alone. Literally will keep asking questions of me until they find something they can counsel me on. While they’re grilling me about what I am doing and what not. Other patrons will come in and be told “ number 4 is open thanks “ while they continue to grill me. All I can assume is, it’s because I am a younger person, and the other people coming in are older. That is about the only thing I can find different between me and them. When I go to a range, if I’m being unsafe I expect contact with the officers. Other than that, they should not be bothering me. But every time I go, they will just not leave me alone. I shouldn’t feel like my age is a factor when shooting. And I shouldn’t feel like my age is an issue when going to a publicly funded shooting range. I realize they’re volunteers. But just because they’re retired and older, and I am not. They they harass me while I’m trying to enjoy the only hobby I have.

One the best public ranges in the nation. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and appropriately focused on safety. It can get busy during hunting season so be prepared to wait if arriving during peak hours. There's a private company call "hit your target" that offers zeroing services that operates there and they have been excellent when I've used them, but their schedule can fluctuate so confirm their hours and whether they'll be there at the specific time you're shooting. Be smart and bring protection for "eyes and ears", otherwise you won't be given a lane to shoot.

I've been shooting at Lee Kay for probably close to 30 years. I did my hunter's safety there in 1997. And I'm done with them. The Range Safety Officers are constantly in your face, even when you've done nothing wrong. I've taken a big group of teenagers there and we got shut down so one of the RSOs could have some attention. I'm done with RSOs who are more interested in making sure that safety glasses are on in the parking lot than they are about kids enjoying a trip to the range. There's a way to correct people when there is an emergent safety issue. There is also a way to make people feel welcome when they have walked one foot closer to the range without glasses on than is permitted. I watch Lee Kay fail at both every time I'm there. And, it's a shame because it is a decent facility and taxpayers have put substantial money into it. But, I'm not going to let them ruin shooting sports for the kids I take to the range who want to shoot. So I'm done with Lee Kay RSOs attention seeking and power grabbing ranting over lapses in range procedures instead of actual safety issues, especially with kids.
